Slowly Catching Up

Where do I start? Each morning at 7:15 I am greeted by as many as 45 teens ready to race into the library. Most of them half-awake. The computers fill up quickly as they plug into their music and check their myspace getting a game or two in before school starts. Some finish up assignments, others sit and chat even on top of each other. Their conversations range from talking about how they beat the latest level to "Why do you think he doesn't like me anymore? " Believe it or not there are some that will borrow books. Then my day begins weeding the collection, my head is swimming with book covers, titles, and plot summaries. I am almost overwhelmed except that I love the satisfaction of connecting teens with good books.

So have I completed reading Nick and Norah or Seventeenth Summer?

Not yet, but I have begun to watch Merchants of Cool.

So as I live daily in the teen arena, I know the most important thing I can do is to listen to their needs and give them some respect.
